BOX Baseball - Game 28 & 29 at Seattle

Game 28- Another BOX pitcher left the game early. Ray was probably on his way to the showers anyway after giving up 8 hits in the first 4 innings, but when his elbow (what is it with this team and elbows?) tweaked after giving up 2 more hits in the 5th that was the end. Stop me if you've heard this one before... he'll be examined by team doctors to determine the extent of the injury.

Kaylor's 5th homer of the year was not enough to stop the BOX offense from sputtering. 3 times the inning ended on double plays with a runner on third (a 4th double play simply emptied the bases.) Those three runs would have come in handy.

Game 29- A 1 o'clock game after a 10 o'clock game on a travel day seemed like a good time to get some of the regulars some rest. The fact that Felix Hernandez was standing on the mound made the guys getting the rest feel even better.  A funny thing happened on the way to crowning Felix king... they showed up to play the game.

After Kaylor just missed homering for the 3rd consecutive game (a leaping catch at the wall denied homer number 6) the BOX scraped together runs in the 6th, 8th, and 9th using a combination of timely hit and runs and a couple of bloop doubles. Werley made the most of his partial day off by coming in as a pinch runner stealing a base (his league leading 21st,) scoring a run and then moving moving a runner first to third with a single in the 9th. Happy birthday to that guy.

Mike pitched six strong. Greg and Alicia bridged to Charlotte who gave up one run but never really threatened giving up the lead.

Earlier in the day Katy was named National League Pitcher of the Month and Cbug was named the Relief Pitcher of the Month. Tests on Ray's elbow came back negative.
