BOX Baseball - Games 19 & 20 vs. Seattle

Game 19 - Becky made an emergency start in place of Katy K. (flu-like symptoms) and pitched 5+ effective innings while the BOX offense doubled their way to a 5-2 win.

The first inning started well. Woodyard, batting leadoff for the second straight game, singled and stole second and was immediately knocked in by the first of my 3 doubles. Ryno's 2-out single made it 2-0. Seems the new BOX strategy may be to keep shuffling the line-up. We didn't manage 2 homers like Ryno did last game, but we did hit 5 doubles. Next game I may set the batting order by pulling names out of a hat.

Charlotte got back on track with a 1-2-3 9th after Alicia made it a save situation by giving up a 2-run homer to Richie Sexson in the 8th.

The BOX is now 15-4 and leads the Central by 5 games.

Game 20 - It was a dark and stormy afternoon that just got darker and stormier at the end. Ryno hit his 4th home run of the year to give the BOX a 1-0 lead but things ended up falling apart when the Mariners scored 7 runs in the last 2 innings.

Katy (who may have still been feeling the flu effects) was great through seven, but hit the wall in the eighth. The Mariners scored twice on two bloop singles to take a 2-1 lead. We manufactured a run in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at 2 but then Jay gave up 2 and then Greg gave up 3 more in the top of the ninth. We went meekly in the bottom and that was that.

The happiest player on the team was probably Dave. He got the day off and stayed out of the rain.

After 20 games the BOX is 15-5.
