BOX Baseball - Game 17 & 18 vs. Cincinnatti

Game 17 - It's fitting on the day he retired from baseball that video game Ken Griffey Jr. hit a game winning home run off a less than 1-year old closer.

The BOX took a one run lead to the ninth and Charlotte came in to try to close out her 8th game of the year, but tonight was not to be the 51-week old's night. After back-to-back singles, Griffey stepped to the plate and slammed a 417-ft. blast over the left-centerfield wall. That was enough for super-mega-stud Matt Belisle.

You remember Belisle right? Totally flummoxed the BOX the last time out and got the win over Mike? Well, second verse, same as the first. Belisle once again confounds the BOX. We got to him for one run in the eighth on a single, stolen base, and a clutch 2-out single from Agati. Unfortunately all that did was set the stage for Griffey's ninth inning heroics.

Game 18 - Gary had a big day in a rare start and Ryno swung for the fences more than once as the BOX offense broke out against the Reds' bullpen. Gary got the start in place of a slumping Werley (his average has fallen to .260) and went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

It was only a 2-1 game heading to the bottom of the 7th when Ryno went deep for the second time this year off the facing of the upper deck in left. An inning later, Ryno went deep again becoming the first person in team history to have a multiple HR game.

Laura wasn't overpowering but once she worked her way out a bases loaded nobody out jam in the 2nd (giving up only 1 run,) the Reds wouldn't threaten again. Jay struck out the side to end the game.
