BOX Baseball - Game 62 vs. Chicago White Sox

Game 62- It all started with Jim Thome's magical broken bat.

The game was tied at 3 in the bottom of the 7th. Alicia was facing pinch-hitter Thome with a runner on first. She got a good pitch inside on Thome that broke the slugger's bat in half.  Unfortunately, snapping a bat in half was not enough to stop the ball from landing a couple of rows into the right field stands. The next batter also homered. That as all for Alicia.

J.C. came in and should have gotten out of the inning, but a user error, when I whiffed on a ground ball that should have been fielded easily, extended the inning and another homer, this one a 3-run shot, put the game out of reach.

BOX Baseball - Game 61 vs. Chicago White Sox

Game 61- The Sox had 3 homers as part of a 17-hit attack as the White Sox smashed the BOX 9-3. Mark Buehrle pitched a complete game as the BOX emptied the bench on a day where nothing was coming up Milhouse.

Notes: The BOX recorded their first outfield assist of the year when Dave threw out a runner at the plate in the 2nd inning. It should be noted that this lack of assists is more a result of weak AI than noodle armed fielders.

BOX Baseball - Game 60 vs. Chicago White Sox

Game 60- Woodyard led off the game with his first career homer and Ryno hit his ninth of the year to win it as the BOX defeated the White Sox 5-2.

Woodyard hit the first pitch he saw into the left field stands off of White Sox starter Brian Moehler. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Do not hang a changeup to Bob on the first pitch of the game.

In the eighth the BOX had runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. Kaylor hit the ball well deep enough to score Joey from third, but Stella had wobbled in from the bullpen asking Joey to tie her shoe just as the ball landed in the right fielders glove and Joey failed to advance.  That put all the pressure on Ryno and Ryno came through. He lined an 0-2 slider from Scott Linebrink to straight away center field to provide the winning margin.

BOX Baseball - Game 59 at Los Angeles

Game 59- The manager left J.C. in for one pitch too many which led directly to the Dodgers 5-4 win over the BOX.

Mike left the game in the 5th with elbow pain after pitching himself in and out of trouble all day. J.C. came in and pitched effectively for 2 innings, but after allowing a run on 3 consecutive hits in the 7th he looked tired. Instead of going to the pen, he was left in to face one more batter. That batter was Russell Martin. Martin homered to give the Dodgers the 5-4 lead and their bullpen made it hold up.

Notes- The game highlighted league leaders before the game and the BOX was well represented. BOX members lead the league in batting average (Woodyard), homers (Kaylor), stolen bases (Werley), ERA (Katy), Strikeouts (Fuzzy), and Saves (Cbug.)

BOX Baseball - Game 58 at Los Angeles

Game 58- Fuzzy, Becky, Stella, Alicia, and Cbug combined to hold the Dodgers to one run on seven hits. Three hits in a row from Dave, Joey, and Werley (including back-to-back doubles from Joey and Werley) in the 5th gave the BOX all the offense they needed as the squeaked by the Dodgers 2-1.

Werley was named player of the game for knocking in the winning run.

BOX Baseball - Game 57 at Los Angeles

Game 57- Interleague play opens in LA (who got switched to the AL West.) Kaylor and Ryno go back-to-back off Derek Lowe in the first. Katy goes eight scoreless innings before allowing a lead-off homer in the 9th. Charlotte hangs on for the save after some shaky defense made it closer than it should have been.

Notes: Kaylor was named player of the week after hitting .600 with 4 homers and 14 rbi. The first round of All-Star voting results were announced. Matt is 2nd at second base (behind Chase Utley.) Kaylor is 2nd at third base (behind Miguel Cabrera.) No one else on the team made the top 3.
