BOX Baseball - Game 72 at Oakland

Game 72- Nick has been spending time as a spot starter and chief team comedian. Against the A's he rode to the rescue after Mike left the game early with an injury.

The A's jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 2 innings. Mike settled down in the third, but in the fourth left the game with a tweaked elbow. Nick came in and only allowed 1 run through 4 innings of relief. He held down the fort long enough to allow the offense to wake up.

For the 2nd game in a row there were no long balls from the BOX offense, but Chimpy was able to provide a spark off the bench in the DH role with a long triple in the third that got the BOX on the board. From there it was a series of singles at opportune times that got the BOX over the top.

BOX Baseball - Game 71 vs. Cincinnati

Game 71- The BOX played sloppy baseball for the first 6 innings before a late inning rally fell just short in a 6-5 loss to the Reds.

Laura was roughed up for 11 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings. It could have been worse as the BOX pulled off 3 inning ending double plays in her 5 innings (4 double plays for the game.) Of course it's hard to turn double plays when you can't keep the ball in the yard and both Adam Dunn and Brandon Phillips homered for the Reds. Dunn's 2-run shot in the 6th ended up providing the winning margin.

It almost didn't matter. The BOX plated 3 in the bottom of the 9th to pull to within one. They had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs and MVP-candidate Kaylor at the plate, but after fouling off several close pitches he popped out to first base for the final out.

BOX Baseball - Game 70 vs. Cincinnati

Game 70- Chimpy labored through 6 innings and the bullpen blew an early lead but Ryno started the bottom of the eighth by hitting a homer off of Louie's favorite karaoke song (that's right, I just wrote a line that only I will possibly understand) to lead the BOX to victory.

Kaylor led the initial offense attack by homering in the second and again in the fifth for his 24th and 25th homers of the year. The BOX managed to plate 4 runs in the 4th by taking advantage of the first 2 walk inning we've had all year.

Chimpy gave up 8 hits in the first 5 innings but managed to only give up a single run thanks to two inning ending double plays. He even knocked in 2 runs in the 4th to help his own cause but left the game after giving up 2 more in the sixth. Alicia gave up the tying run in the top of the eighth, but ended up getting the win when Ryno started the 4 run rally in the bottom.

Note: Kaylor reached 25 homers and 75 RBI for the season

BOX Baseball - Game 69 vs. Cincinnati

Game 69- A couple of key hits gave the BOX the runs they would need as Katy put together another masterful pitching performance and Dayton beat their neighbors down I-75, 4-1.

Katy went 7 and a third and only gave up 4 hits. The only Reds threat was wiped out by a great fielding play by Ryno who started a 3-6-1 double play after making a diving stop.

The only time the Reds did score was because the manager accidentally let Jenny go to the mound to start the top of the 9th. One long double later Stella came in and one more double later the run had scored, but since it was charged to Jenny, none of our pitchers will really know about it.

Note: Dave left the game in the bottom of the 8th after injuring himself diving back into first after a line drive to second.
